Now in need of a good clean and paint the boat has a reduced price tag to reflect this. The private owner is in his 80's and is unable to now look after the boat.
The Interceptor, a period boat, constructed from mahogany and teak in 1965 by Thornycroft with a hull shape based on that of the World War 2 Motor Torpedo Boat. Now with modern central heating and air conditioning, she was licensed as a passenger carrrying boat with a capacity of up to 28 people, plus crew
Specially designed with a large open cockpit at the stern, a luxurious inside seating area and complete with toilet and galley facilities. Interceptor is perfect for just about any occasion; hosting champagne receptions; perhaps a three-course meal or just for a luxury family day out.
Interceptor was originally built for the directors of the Ford Motor Company and was moored opposite their factory at Dagenham for many years. The directors held their confidential board meetings onboard and also entertained their American counterparts on-board. Her name is taken from the well-known car the Jensen Interceptor which unwittingly created the funds to have this boat built.
The large windows in the saloon allow the splendour of the River Thames to be enjoyed to its full extent at a sedate speed whilst enjoying food and drink from a well-appointed galley. Her original petrol engines were replaced with modern, powerful Mermaid diesel engines which gives the 16 ton vessel a top speed of 8-12 knots when required.
In fine weather, the quarterdeck was often used for pre-dinner drinks or to watch one of numerous firework displays that are held along the Thames - in either case, the panoramic views of London are there to be enjoyed by all.
We used to use this boat for these private charters. She has been equally at home transferring performers or guests to The o2 by North Greenwich Pier, providing a comfortable venue for conferences or dinner parties in Central London, through to the pageantry of events such as the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant; Great River Race or the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race.
